What becoming an EAED Active Member represents?

Becoming an Active Member of the EAED represents a level of international professional recognition achieved by only a limited number of professionals worldwide.
It means joining one of the most prestigious academies in multidisciplinary esthetic dentistry, recognized for scientific rigor, ethical standards, and human values.

Active Membership offers exceptional opportunities through participation in EAED events, especially the Spring Meetings and, even more, the Closed Members Meetings, held every year usually late September, which represent the true heart of the Academy.

Closed Meetings are characterized by an informal yet intellectually demanding atmosphere, where high-level scientific content is openly discussed and strong interpersonal relationships naturally develop. For many, this is also an unmatched opportunity for personal and human growth.

Requirements for application

To apply for EAED Active Membership, one must:

Hold Affiliate status
Have attended at least two EAED Spring Meetings as an Affiliate within the previous five years
Be in good standing with membership dues

Affiliate status is a mandatory prerequisite, but it does not automatically lead to Membership.

A guided, sponsor-based process

Becoming an Active Member is an invitation-based and guided process. A candidate does not apply independently. The pathway begins when the candidate:

Expresses a clear and genuine interest in becoming an Active Member
Builds a close and direct relationship with three potential sponsors
Demonstrates consistency, motivation, and alignment with EAED values over time

Sponsors must be Active Members or Life Members. Their role goes far beyond a formal endorsement: they guide the candidate, help clarify expectations and culture, evaluate readiness, and formally propose the candidacy to the Membership Committee.

Memmbership interview

The candidate must prepare 10 to 15 clinical cases representing the scope and complexity of their daily clinical practice. If the cases presented are of limited complexity, the number must be closer to 15. If the cases are highly complex (e.g. full arch or full mouth rehabilitations), fewer cases (closer to 10) are acceptable.

Post-operative follow-up is essential:

At least three cases must have a follow-up of more than 5 years;
All other cases must have a minimum of 2 years of documented follow-up;

No more than 25% of the cases may originate from educational programs (graduate or postgraduate).

All cases must include:

Full mouth periodontal charting (when appropriate);
Before and after clinical photographs;
Appropriate radiographic documentation of all treated areas;
Complete diagnosis, including full arch and individual tooth-level diagnoses;
Documentation of all major clinical steps, clearly showing surrounding soft tissues;
Esthetic and functional analysis, supported where appropriate by scientific references;
A solid understanding of the relevant literature must be evident.

Each case should be numbered and categorized by type, and submitted as individual PDFs, to be distributed to the Membership Committee at least two months prior to the interview. The candidate is also encouraged to bring models, images, and any other aids they feel will support their presentation.

The presentation format must:

Be delivered via computer;
Use standard 16:9 widescreen format;
Avoid animations, transitions, or unnecessary visual effects;
Be presented on a plain (preferably black or white) background.

Membership Vote

After the Membership Interview during the Spring Meeting, the candidate will be notified whether he/she is invited to present in front of the General Assembly during the following Closed Meeting.
To become an Active Member, it is necessary to receive a three-quarters (3/4) affirmative vote, that will be held during the Closed Meeting, of EAED Members present at the General Assembly.

Notification

A written decision will be forwarded to you after the meeting’s conclusion. If not accepted, you will have one other opportunity to present in a future autumn meeting.

GUIDELINES FOR CANDIDATE STATUS

The purposeof the Candidate Status is to highlight those EAED Affiliates who desire tobecome EAED Active Members. It represents a means to make this known to thewider membership. Being a Candidate represents a "statement ofintent" to strive for Active membership.

The Candidate Committee is an optionaladditional resource alongside the "traditional" path supported by theMembership Committee, with the aim to help and facilitate the candidate'sjourney, particularly those with difficulty connecting with sponsors.

Affiliates who are following the traditionalroute (i.e., have 3 sponsors who are providing the support needed for thejourney to Active membership) are also considered to have Candidate Status.They or their sponsors should inform the Candidate Committee to be identifiedas such.

Eligibility

• AllEAED Affiliates, in good standing, are eligible for Candidate Status.

Procedure — The Path toActive Membership

If you know or already have 3 sponsors, you can inform them about your desire to apply for Active Membership.

Once agreed with your sponsors, youor your main sponsor should inform the Candidate Committee of your candidacyfor Active Membership using the provided link, or by email atcandidatecommittee@eaed.org. When agreed with your sponsors thatyou are ready for the Active Membership interview, email the Secretariat(management@eaed.org) to inform the Membership Committee.

The Academy will then inform you ofthe date of the Active Membership Interview.

Where the CandidateCommittee Can Help

If the potential candidate isfinding it difficult to find sponsors, they can contact the Candidate Committeefor help to connect with sponsors.

Potential candidates should be readyto begin the journey, i.e., have at least 3–5 documented cases representing therange of procedures performed in their practice.

If approaching the CandidateCommittee for help finding sponsors, the above 3–5 cases should be sent by PDFalong with a CV and letter describing themselves and their practice.

After assessment of the information,the Candidate Committee will contact the Affiliate and schedule an onlinemeeting.

During this meeting, the CandidateCommittee will decide if the Affiliate is eligible for Candidate Status andhelp with the connection to sponsors.

Candidates will be highlighted witha special badge during the following EAED Spring Meetings to facilitate contactwith Sponsors and Active Members.

The Candidate Status is limited tofive years. If after this period the Candidate is not ready for the ActiveMembership Interview, they will revert to EAED Affiliate Status.

The Candidate should have attendedat least 2 out of the 5 most recent EAED Spring Meetings.

The Candidate has the option torequest a Simulation Interview with the Candidate Committee prior to theofficial one with the Membership Committee.

Cases Guidelines for theSimulation Interview

Affiliates who aim for CandidateStatus should be aware of the requirements for Active Membership published onthe website.

All cases should be treated by theAffiliate and their team (not from postgraduate programs).

The Affiliate should prepare 3–5cases representing the range of procedures performed in their practice.

Case examples are available on thewebsite to be used as reference for documentation protocol, quality of photos,presentation style, etc.

All cases should have properdocumentation appropriate to the case complexity (follow the Guidelines for theActive Membership Application or view the Case Examples published on thewebsite).

If the treatment is of limitedcomplexity, the candidate should submit a higher number of cases. If thetreatments are extensive (such as full arch or whole mouth) or of highcomplexity, fewer cases may be submitted.

Each case should have a minimum of 2years' follow-up.
