‍Dear EAED members affiliates and friends,

It is a great pleasure and privilege to write this “Welcome note”, the first one of my 2-year term as President. First and foremost, I wish to congratulate Irena SAILER, whom I succeed, for the remarkable work accomplished during her Presidency. She has shown special qualities to head our Academy and the Exco had a wonderful time, working with her. Let me wish today that our “Past Presidents’ College” will support another woman’s candidature for this position in the future.  Fortunately, the cooperation with Irena will continue for one more year, seeing completion of many projects initiated during the last 2years. Indeed, the Quo Vadis Meeting organized at the Porto congress, prompted the many changes and improvements needed for renewing the Academy management and operations; among others, we have now a new membership and registration platform, which could already be used for the forthcoming Fall Meeting in Algarve. A new secretary has also entered function, Renate ANDROSH-HOLZER, who you might have already seen or met in Split. She will play a pivotal role, connecting the Exco and EAED’s members and affiliates, whenever they need to reach a friendly interlocutor to deal with administrative matters. Last but not least, we invested significant efforts to make the Academy visible on social medias, with growing and remarkable success. Thank you, Andrea RICCI, for connecting us to very effective and supportive media partners. Pascal ZYMANN and myself worked relentlessly to control the financial impact of these many projects on our running expenses, and we can confirm that the good financial health of the Academy is preserved. I wish to acknowledge here the contribution of advisors and all committees to move through this successful evolution.

The Exco will continue to work on various implementations to modernize the Academy and prepare it for its future in a rapidly changing world, also but not limited to a dental perspective! Another key objective is to continue supporting new, young attendees and affiliates to benefit from the collective know-how and experience of our community, to help developing their career and professional life. We look very much forward to welcoming more young, passionate dentists to the EAED!

There is also a vision to strengthen the scientific and clinical balance of our congresses’ programs, integrating new technologies and digital protocols…but not only! We must face the fact that complex, full mouth rehabilitations are no longer today’s dentistry for the majority of us and in particular young fellows. We shall then further explore the sophisticated protocols needed to resolve localized aesthetic deficiencies and embrace the wide range of conservative options of adhesive dentistry to rehabilitate smiles and enhance their natural beauty, possibly avoiding more invasive protocols. This shall certainly happen without rejecting some more traditional types of rehabilitations…in short, sticking to the long-time, uncompromised quality and ethical EAED’s standards with a flavour of modernity.  

We will finally strive to strengthen connections with our industry partners, which are part of the EAED family and bring a highly appreciated contribution to our meetings’ organization. The sponsorship committee has in fact imagined new ways to interact regularly with our sponsors, enhance the EAED-industry synergy and allow members to be informed in priority about latest product developments. Watch this and forthcoming Newsletters and webinars to explore and benefit from this improved cooperation format.   

The Exco and committees finally wish you all a successful return to work after, hopefully, a restful and enjoyable summer vacation.

It was wonderful to experience the enthusiasm and large turnout of the Affiliates at the Spring Meeting in Split. This energizes us in the Committee to continue working hard in ensuring the Affiliates are a vital component in the growth of our Academy.

We would like to encourage you to take advantage of the 1-2-1 zoom meetings with us in the Committee, in order to help you on your journey to Candidate and Active Member status. We can discuss your clinical work, your dreams and aspirations, your suggestions to help make your Affiliate status more rewarding.

We are arranging Affiliate Webinars where Affiliates can present their work in a short presentation to be followed by discussions with the participating Affiliates and Members. We would precede the Webinars with a 1-2-1 session. Our first Webinar will be on Wednesday October 15 with Finlay Sutton with the topic being Removable Prosth … should be a worthwhile (and fun!) evening. Details with the zoom link will be sent nearer the time. We would like to encourage any of you interested, in letting us know in the Committee that you could put together a Webinar.

The International Journal of Esthetic Dentistry (IJED) is the official journal of the Academy. We’re always interested in articles, cases, photos, so if you have anything of interest, get in touch with us, and we’d happily discuss the possibilities with you.

As a new initiative, the AC will be coordinating with the International Federation of Esthetic Dentistry (IFED) and participating in the IFED World Cup Challenge. This is open to the “younger” (under 40 years of age) colleagues who would like to participate. The previous rules and competition are on the IFED website: https://www.ifed.org/events/ifed-world-challenge/  There are already 10 Academies/Societies signed up globally. We will need 5 participants, so let us know ASAP and we can provide you with the updated format and rules. Let’s show the International Community of dentistry why the EAED is considered one of the leading group of colleagues in the world.

On behalf of the membership committee, I am delighted to share that we now have 23 candidates for active membership, and that at the spring meeting in Split, we screened four excellent candidates who were all passed to go forwards to present before the membership in the active members meeting.

We were also delighted to welcome 3 new active members via the invited speaker's route.

Certainly, we are very encouraged that the initiatives that were put in place in recent years to encourage affiliates to become active members seem to have been a great success. We look forward to welcoming more of our affiliates into the active membership in the coming years.

The candidate committee works closely with the membership committee to encourage affiliate members to become active and guide them how to prepare their cases and how to interact with their sponsors. The EAED organized one-on-one meetings with members who needed support and guidance and we are happy that 23 affiliates have already applied to become active and many more are planning to do so in the next coming years. Our strength is our members who strive to be leaders and mentors for other dentists in Europe and around the world.

On behalf of the media committee, we are honored to share with you our activities and updates.

Initiatives already achieved:

• New EAED Website
After more than 10 years, we launched a fully redesigned website—modern, fast, and mobile-friendly—with a clean visual identity that better reflects EAED’s esthetic excellence. The new structure improves content discoverability (programs, members, events) and lays the groundwork for future member-area features.

• New Academy Management Platform (SEM)
We implemented a platform that makes administration leaner, more efficient, and more autonomous across membership, communications, and event logistics. While there were initial hiccups (our apologies), this upgrade is already simplifying workflows, reducing manual steps, and strengthening data consistency and governance behind the scenes.

• Automated Registration Platform for Closed Meetings
An operational (and continually refined) system now streamlines registrations for closed meetings, shortening the sign-up process and minimizing back-and-forth for members and staff. Further improvements are planned to enhance usability and confirmation flows.

• Two-Year Strategic Partnerships
We finalized two-year contracts with Incontro Studio (Umberto Santos’ team) and the marketing firm Aperto. Working in concert, they’ve elevated our photo/video coverage, post-production quality, and content cadence—results that are already visible across our social channels and the website.

Upcoming initiatives

• EAED Photo Archive
We are building a centralized, searchable archive to allow members and affiliates to download high-quality photos and videos from past events. Clear usage guidelines and attribution instructions will be included to facilitate reuse.

• Clinical Challenge for the Young Generation
We are defining the rules and evaluation criteria for a clinical competition dedicated to younger colleagues (residents and early-career dentists). Winners will receive complimentary access to our events and visibility across EAED channels, fostering growth and mentorship.

• Social Case Presentation Format
We are preparing a standardized template for sharing clinical cases on social media—emphasizing treatment planning rigor, step-by-step photographic documentation, and methodological clarity in esthetic dentistry. The goal is to set a recognizable quality benchmark that makes learning clearer and more consistent. This will also set EAED as a leader Academy in the modern dental community.
