Composite Veneers and lifespan of extended composite restorations:
Challenging ceramics

Abstract
This lecture explores how modern composite materials, when coupled with advanced anatomical layering, controlled polymerization, and proper maintenance strategies, can achieve long-term performance comparable to ceramic restorations. Using long-term clinical data and the direct–indirect composite veneer technique as a foundation, the session presents evidence of over 10-year follow-ups that demonstrate exceptional stability, aesthetics, and reparability. The lecture challenges the conventional assumption that ceramics are always the gold standard, highlighting clinical scenarios where composites provide superior biological preservation, cost-effectiveness, and ease of repair. Participants will gain practical insights into material selection, execution protocols, and longevity-enhancing layering and finishing techniques.

Learning Objectives

1. Evaluate the long-term performance of composite veneers in comparison to ceramics.
2. Apply the direct–indirect technique to enhance aesthetic predictability and durability.
3. Employ finishing, polishing, and maintenance protocols that extend restoration lifespan.

Injection molding technique: innovative “customized hybrid index “and updated clinical procedures

Abstract
Injection Molding Technique is a powerful therapeutic option in the restorative field, aiming to improve the aesthetics and function of teeth. It is a repeatable and predictable technique, which requires a direct/indirect procedure to transform the digital tooth design and the wax-up (analog or digital) into a definitive composite restoration.

The traditional technique involves the application of a single layer of flowable composite using a transparent silicone index. The author has developed this technique with the introduction of the innovative Customized Hybrid Index (CHI) with which it is possible to use both flowable or heated (thermoviscous) composites, with separate layering of dentin, enamel and opalescent incisal masses, thus improving the aesthetic result compared to the previous technique. Furthermore, have been codified the different clinical procedures: monolithic one-stage one-step approach, monolithic two step approach and layered two-stage three-step approach. Thanks to the CHI and the development of the technique, it is possible to broaden the Clinical application of IMT beyond the restorative field, thus including pre- and post-orthodontic restorations, periodontal cases and the more advanced full mouth adhesive rehabilitations. For all these reasons, IMT has now become an essential and highly predictable therapeutic alternative in daily clinical practice.

Keys choices to optimize longevity of adhesive interfaces

Abstract
The aim of this lecture is to classify currently available adhesive systems and cements and to outline the appropriate step-by-step clinical protocols for direct and indirect restorations under different clinical conditions.

The specific characteristics of restorative materials and adhesive cements will be discussed to highlight the critical role of the clinician in achieving optimal bonding performance, including high bond strength, long-term durability, and reduced postoperative sensitivity. Despite their apparent simplicity (particularly simplified adhesives and self-adhesive cements) adhesive and luting procedures require meticulous, material-specific clinical protocols.

Finally, the lecture will present practical tips and clinical strategies to enhance aesthetic outcomes, biomechanical performance, bond strength, and long-term stability of the adhesive interface.

The Willi Geller Honorary Lecture

16:15 - 17:00

Dr. Sascha HEIN (DE)
Moderator: Giuseppe ROMEO (IT)

From Observation to Optics: Evolving the legacy of tooth colour appearance

Abstract
Willi Geller’s intuitive understanding of light and layering revolutionised how dental ceramics were approached in aesthetic dentistry. His seminal video “Light and Shadow” captured a truth that science would only later begin to quantify: that tooth colour is not a static property, but an appearance shaped by light, structure, and perception.
As both a colour scientist and a member of the oral design group, this lecture will revisit Willi Geller’s observations through the lens of contemporary optical science. We will explore how advances in spectral analysis, scattering theory, and imaging technology now allow us to understand the interplay of absorption and scattering in dental hard tissues—and how these principles affect the appearance of both natural teeth and restorative materials.
The lecture will also evaluate the capabilities and limitations of current colour measurement technologies, from spectrophotometers and intraoral scanners to calibrated imaging systems. In doing so, we will question long-held assumptions about the optical differences between ceramics and composites, and propose a more nuanced view grounded in scientific evidence.
In honouring Geller’s legacy, the aim is not to replace artistic intuition with numbers, but to equip today’s clinicians and technicians with a deeper understanding of the optical foundations that underpin truly lifelike restorations.

Learning Objectives:

1 Revisit Willi Geller’s concept of “light and shadow” through the lens of modern optical science.

2 Understand how scattering and absorption govern the appearance of natural teeth and restorations.

3 Critically evaluate the capabilities of colour measurement devices and digital systems.

4 Apply optical insights to improve shade matching and material selection in daily practice.

Are aligners still having limited indications?

Abstract
Clear aligners have evolved beyond simple malocclusion correction to become a strategic tool in interdisciplinary dentistry. The critical question is no longer whether aligners can move teeth, but whether they can consistently achieve the three-dimensional positioning required for high-quality, minimally invasive rehabilitation.

Although intrinsic limitations remain, clinical predictability depends less on the appliance itself and more on the quality of digital planning and the rigor of biomechanical protocols. Orthodontic- and prosthodontic-driven virtual setups must converge into a shared digital reference aligning orthodontic and restorative objectives from the outset. Treatment begins with an orthodontically driven digital set-up defining final occlusion and interdisciplinary sequencing. A prosthodontically driven evaluation is then integrated to refine orthodontic finishing and tooth positioning according to restorative and biological endpoints, enabling predictable and minimally invasive definitive rehabilitation. When supported by appropriate biomechanics, aligner therapy can translate digital objectives into clinically reproducible and biologically stable outcomes.
This presentation reviews biomechanical strategies for complex movements, emphasizing staging design, selective auxiliaries, and disciplined case selection. Clinical scenarios include implant site development, molar uprighting, occlusal plane leveling, space redistribution, three-dimensional incisor positioning, and root torque control to support periodontal stability, facial balance, and long-term tissue preservation.
Clear aligner indications are not unlimited; however, within a coherent digital and biomechanical framework, they represent a predictable medium for pre-prosthetic optimization and biologically respectful restorative results.

Tooth Shape Management in Post-Orthodontic Patients:
A Conservative Approach

Abstract
Orthodontic therapy establishes alignment, occlusal balance, and spatial harmony within the dental arches. However, in some cases, orthodontic correction alone may not be sufficient to achieve the optimal esthetic result. Tooth shape anomalies, size discrepancies, and subtle morphological disharmonies can persist after treatment, potentially influencing both smile esthetics and long-term stability.
In these situations, a minimally invasive combined orthodontic–restorative approach allows the clinician to complete and refine the case. Additive adhesive procedures, guided by careful esthetic and functional planning, enable correction of morphological discrepancies while preserving maximum enamel and maintaining occlusal integrity.
Particular attention will be given to young patients, in whom preservation of sound dental tissue is essential. Through clinical cases, the lecture will demonstrate how interdisciplinary planning and conservative restorative strategies can enhance smile harmony and ensure predictable, long-lasting outcomes.

Diagnosis & conservative protocols for white & brown dyschromia

Saturday, May 30th 2026 12:00 - 12:30

Abstract
Enamel infiltration was initially developed to arrest the progression of early proximal carious lesions and has proven to be highly successful in doing so. However, when the same technique is applied for the esthetic management of developmental enamel defects, the results can be more challenging to control. Based on accurate diagnosis, transillumination findings and histological considerations, the clinician should adjust the original protocol to achieve predictable infiltration of hypomineralized enamel. Furthermore, the session will cover how to optimize esthetic outcomes by combining infiltration with minimal invasive techniques such as micro-abrasion, bleaching and direct composite bonding.

Veneer preparations with a fully automated dental robot -
The revolutionary approach

Abstract
Since two decades there is strong and growing demand globally for aesthetic dental treatments such as porcelain laminate veneers.
The extremely crucial step is all about how to minimally prepare the teeth since the preservation of healthy enamel is the key to long term success and health of the tooth structure. The ideal approach to that is to be able to prepare the tooth through a solid reference which happens to be the APT (Final Mock up / wax up) representing the final aesthetic & functional design.
Until now the analog preparation techniques such as preparing the tooth through the APT had been widely discussed and executed.
In this lecture the focus will be on how to digitally create the final prep design and execute the minimally invasive tooth preparations with the help of a fully automated dental robot. Research has already proven that the precision of the robot is way more accurate than prepping the teeth free hand.
The new workflow based on the extremely high precision of the system, will allow the veneers to be fabricated in advance and the dentist finalize the whole procedure at the same day of tooth preparation, referring to an “all in one” concept.
